James Carter – Principal Structural Engineer

James recently joined CGW as a Principal Structural Engineer based in the Nelson office.
Educated in the UK, he graduated in 2002 from the University of Bath with a first-class Master of Engineering degree before starting his career in London working on a variety of commercial, education and residential buildings. James passed the IStructE exam in 2006 and remains a chartered member of IStructE.
He relocated to Wellington, NZ in 2009 to lead the Wellington structural team for SKM (now Jacobs). James worked on a variety of buildings and infrastructure projects in Wellington and gained CPEng status in 2011.
In 2017 James joined Calibre Consulting, relocating to the Nelson region in January 2019 in a Technical Director role.
Over the last 21 years he has maintained his passion for working with architects and other designers to develop smart designs for new buildings and developed expertise in the seismic assessment and strengthening of existing buildings.
When not working, James enjoys time with his family exploring the country, tramping, camping and fishing.
